It needed to be clear what ICON Yachts is all about and give any viewer a quick overview. Provided with a lot of information, the first task was to split this in to key sections to give the booklet some structure. These were then colour coded to create clear separation between the elements. With the finale centring around uniting all the colours as a summary of ICON Yachts and what it can bring to the potential client. My role involved taking it from the drawing board right through to being printed at a professional standard with nearly full control over the developments. With a short turn around time for both design and production I created a number of A4 sleeves that would hold the specification sheets in an eye catching way. The thought behind them was to place a teaser sketch of a key feature on the front of each. Then, taking advantage of the large inside fold, I placed a large image of each boat to really show off all the details. This was then joined by a large key quote, so even if the viewer did not remember all the technical specifications, they would really remember what made each yacht a unique piece of art. Given a lot of creative control, I was also very much in control of time and budget management throughout the project, bringing in the right people and orchestrating the production process. One of the main elements during the development was to create a water feature on which the model yachts would sit. A unique feature that I designed, developed and oversaw completion of. This resulted in me being heavily involved throughout conceptualisation, 3D computer modelling of ideas, mock ups and curating final manufacturing across a number of companies. Their aim was to explore a new way of capturing fashion through the medium of 3D scanning in an experimental and playful way, with the focus being on the strong shadows created through this process. My role during the project was to capture the process through film and photography, with these being some of those photographs. A particular challenge of this task was to be able to create good results while working simultaneously with the many other groups, all with very different objectives throughout the time on site. The name Michael was proposed and voted for by the year and when it got to us there seemed to be a variety of ideas as to why it was called Michael. So as a small branding team we sat down and decided that Michael was a ‘blank canvas’. A canvas upon which each of us could instil the dreams, aspirations and qualities of the viewers/users we had in our own minds. The challenge was to create an identity of no identity. We chose greyboard as our starting material for the catalogues as to us it held the least amount of predetermined personality, even less so that white card.
